Dental Insurance Coverage

What Type Of Dental Insurance Is Available?

There are a few different dental insurance plans available to choose from. You will want to look carefully at each plan to determine which one is the best for your family.

Dental Health Maintenance Organization or DHMO is an inexpensive plan that has a list of dentists available to chose from who will provide certain dental services and treatments that will typically be no charge to the patient, although some procedures will require a co-payment. This type of plan offers low cost dental services geared toward preventative dental health.

Indemnity dental insurance gives patients the ability to choose their own dentist. This plan will pay for a pre-determined portion of the services provided with the remaining balance being the responsibility of the patient.

Preferred Provider Organization or PPO is a dental insurance plan that offers patients a list of dentists from which to choose who all offer services at reduced rates for insured members. If you choose to see a dentist that is not on the list of providers you will have to pay higher rates for services.

Scheduled dental insurance plans will reimburse you a pre-determined fee for any services which are provided to you. It gives a breakdown of services available and how much they will cover for that service, with the remaining balance being your responsibility. These plans also include deductibles and calendar year maximums. Some procedures may also require a waiting period.
